Hampden Academy is welcoming to all. Everyone is helpful when needed. It’s been a great experience for the 4 years I’ve been attending. There is a wide variety of classes for people planning to major in different subjects after high school. There are many clubs and activities that most teachers run. Sports are also very popular at Hampden Academy. We have Great student sections. Although there are some teachers that are harder to work with than others, most teachers are understanding with getting assignments done on top of work, sports, and other responsibilities. Teachers also offer help time before and after school which is very helpful in certain classes someone might struggle with. Teachers put effort into helping us get good grades and achieve our goals. Rules are also put in placed and followed for those who need it. Everyone is treated equally. We have awesome guidance counselors who are willing to help with college.
Hampden puts a lot of trust in their high quality facilities. Our reputation is withheld in the resources and opportunities the expensive building has to offer. However, that alone doesn't hide the clear frustration from underpaid faculty struggling to manage a larger student body. If you want to offer a variety of clubs and activities, assure that those running the programs are compensated properly. This would improve the overall quality of work and effort put into the vital relationship of teacher to student. Learning without the presence of respect is difficult, achieving that respect is even harder. I have watched teachers lose more and more respect in the classrooms here at Hampden. Students do not react to discipline in an aggressive manner, respect is mutual and they expect some in return for their own.
I loved my experience at Hampden Academy. Throughout my high school career, I was offered many opportunities to create a better future for myself. I also felt like I was in a safe environment and I felt like it was a place where I could focus on learning while creating friendships. I was also offered many opportunities to play sports which I'm extremely grateful for and I will remember sports memories for the rest of my life. I learned how to balance sports, academics, and outside-of-school activities (work). Multitasking is a skill that most need in the future so I was glad I was able to experience it so early and learn how to make it easier and more organized.
