Going to school here in Hammond has been one of the greatest high school experiences I feel anyone could have. The school is not terribly large, so navigating the campus during my freshman year was something I learned to do in the matter of a couple of weeks. The involvement of students in the school is amazing because it shows that the school has flavor and that people are willing to show the rest of the United States that Hammond High is worth it.
Being one of the few public schools in the country to be both a Medical Magnet School and an IB World School shows that the community cares. While the Tangipahoa Parish School System is not the best-funded in the state, they sure know where to spend their money, and they well with building Hammond High into what it is today.
With frequent fights and threats to the campus, Hammond High Magnet School does not have the best reputation. Despite this, Hammond has provided me with the best education the tangipahoa parish school system had to offer. The International Baccalaureate program is only offered in three schools in my state, Hammond being one of them. This program has lead me to accomplish more while also obtaining large amounts of information. It has prepared me for the work college will be. Without Hammond high, I doubt I would ever have been as prepared as I am now.
