I enjoy going to school here because I feel better prepared on what to expect for future college pursuits. I don't know that I would feel as prepared if I were graduating from a regular high school program.
I have attended this school during my junior year and will soon be attending senior year. This school is a wonderful opportunity to get the college experience in high school.
Here, you complete your high school credits and get dual enrollment credits. I will soon have enough college credits to get a general associate's degree with a strong likelihood of transferring to the university of my choice.
I also love the challenging environment that inspires me to do more. The high school I previously attended was too easy. At this school, I know that I am getting college credits allowing me to cut 2 years off of education. The teachers here are excellent and truly committed to their students' academic success, and I particularly love the friendly environment and fun extracurriculars.
One thing I would say is lacking is the sports environment. There are intramurals for the most part, but some sports like soccer and tennis can be played with other high schools.

Well, it is a state run school. As far as they go it’s decent with a pretty good collegiate program. Very diverse group of people, friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of on campus activities that can be participated in by the student.
It was great to just have classes on a semesterly basis instead of annually and to switch the 7 hour tedium of school for a college schedule. You do kind of miss the whole high school experience except for time with whatever friends you have in normal high school, and there's not much a social aspect to the school.
I love Collegiate High School! It has helped me prepare for college in a big way. I have gotten to experience a variety of college classroom settings all while being in high school!
Chattanooga state middle high school changed my life for the better. I left my high school where I was bullied and felt like I was not helping my education. I graduated with my high school and associates degree at 18. I went on to get a bachelors from MTSU in speech languge pathology. Today, I am now getting ready to go to graduate school for speech language pathology at the age of 21.
Everything about it! There is much more freedom to just go to school without people hovering over you and the pressures of regular high school. Bullying is non-existent and all you have to do is sign in every day you have class. It is incredibly efficient because you can save money on general education classes so that when you transfer to a 4-year (at least in my case) you don't have to pay the crazy high costs for basic classes.
I think its a great overall college experience. You have everything you need available to you. From teachers that care about you to tutors you help you with your studies. This is the place to go. It is also very affordable for those who are tight on money. The classes help you get ready for the real world or if you are planning to transfer somewhere else.
Some things that I like about Chattanooga State Middle College High School include our teachers, our secretary, and the overall set up of the school. I like being able to take the college courses and get ahead. One thing that I don't mind very much and would like to see change is the lack of grants and scholarships that we have to pay for our semesters. There isn't much money aside from the Dual ENrollment Grant and I think it would be nice to see more.
The college this school is associated with has many extracurricular options, but our students weren't invited/made aware of them. If you wanted to know about/join a club, you pretty much had to know people already in the organization. But, everyone was encouraged to vote for the student body president and such; even though we knew almost nothing about the candidates or their positions.
The school itself is an incredible place because it is located directly on a college campus, meaning most (if not all) of our classes are actual college courses (college credit included) taught by actual college professors instead of being at a high school level. There is a certain freedom that comes from this that you can't find at a traditional high school.
Most of the teaching was old-fashioned, out of a textbook and answering questions at the end of a chapter. The teacher's themselves were knowledgeable and consistent in grading, but communication was often an issue. They also seemed to have obvious favorites among students and weren't too open to other opinions.
School is failing very intelligent students, and impeding their ability to successfully earn the scholarships they deserve. The necessary involvement and follow-through of school administration is substantially lacking, in addition to teaching faculty behavioral concerns.
Students more or less make their own health decisions here. There's no school nurse, but since it's on a college campus, if you seem to be in seriously rough shape, Doctor Rich (our principal), Amy Blazek (our advisor), or Miss Antoinette (our secretary), will either point you to the health department, who might be able to help you, or help you themselves, and usually that's enough. In terms of safety, as a young woman I have a hard time feeling safe in the evening, but that's more of a societal issue, in my opinion. Doc, Miss Antoinette, or the police who roam campus, will help walk you to your car if you feel unsafe.
Because our extracurriculars are through the college, (like most, if not all, of our classes) this rating is more for the college. There are sufficient extracurriculars (the SGA, for example, or other clubs one can join; I'm a member of the SGA, and the gifted program called Global Scholars) but they're offered through the college, not through the county.
The overall experience at this school is great. Seriously, I wish I had gone here my whole high school career. The other students are awesome, the principal is great (we call her Grandma; she always brings us cookies and sometimes takes us out to lunch when we participate in the WGOW "Be True to Your School" radio show, which I did and which was an amazing

time.
Because of the way our school works, we only have two teachers that are employed by the county. One of these teachers is excellent, and the other one is just okay, but they both do their best. The administrators are all great, though.
