Hall-Dale is a small community of students and teachers located in small town Maine. Having attended HD for 13 years, I always felt like there were teachers at the school that genuinely cared about my future and wanted me to succeed. However, the proficiency based system was a huge inhibitor of success for nearly every student. The 1-4 grading system and "student led pace" was not motivating for kids that needed extra encouragement or even for those that were overachievers. Mediocrity was often accepted and even rewarded at the school, as there were never any hard deadlines or consequences for turning in late work. I felt very unprepared for the college grading system after graduating from this school, despite having done well at HD. Their teaching and grading system needs a large overhaul.
The school culture was open and welcoming to everyone. We are a tight-knit community where everyone knows everyone. It was a great school that set me up well for my current college experience where I am studying engineering. Very thankful for Hall-Dale!
Hall-Dale's school itself is fairly mediocre overall. The food isn't great, the courses aren't amazing, and the funding is practically nonexistent. However, Hall-Dale does shine in its staff. Every teacher I've had over my 7 years here bring their all to the classroom, supportive in curriculum and genuinely knowledgable in what they teach. On top of that they are very personable, creating lasting relationships with students that keep them visiting our school for years to come.
