I've been at Hackley since fifth grade, and I love it! The administration puts a lot of effort into building a kind community, and I honestly think this is the best you're going to get in a school. And the teachers are wonderfully capable, intelligent, and empathetic—they're some of my best friends, insofar as a teacher-student relationship can constitute a friendship.
Still, there are things that could be improved: for one, the institution values athletics far more than the arts, and it shows—the music/theatre facilities are housed in the old gyms, and the visual art classes are all in the school basement; meanwhile, we just poured tons of money into building a glorious new athletic center. And I'm peeved that we only have AP classes for math, science, and foreign language but no AP/advanced classes for English or history—instead, we have collegiate-level English only, which hurts the kids who can't handle it.
On the whole, though, Hackley is amazing, and I love it!

Hackley is such a wonderful school and has so many opportunities that any student can experience. Their casten trips allow students to travel the world to participate in community service, or explore the language their studying. There are so many extracurriculars. There are a lot of places to hang out/study throughout the school. The new gym with a fencing studio, wrestling room, 8-lane pool, and more just makes sports so fun. However with any school there is always more to improve like the Preforming Arts Center. There are always ways to take leadership by doing things like forming clubs, and many other things to take action on things you believe in. At Hackley teachers just want students to exceed and even will stay at the school late just to meet with students for tutoring. All of the administration is very kind. Hackley is very generous with financial aid.
Hackley has a beautiful campus and a pretty friendly atmosphere. The academics are very rigorous, especially English. The English teachers are very critical of your work, and often will give you lower grades than you expect, but that's how you learn to improve your writing. Physics is one of the strongest sciences because we have amazing teachers for the subject, one of which wrote a textbook for the class. However, the music and arts department are sub par compared to other high ranking private schools. The art classrooms are right by the freshman and sophomore lockers, there's not a designated area for them, but there are many talented artists. The music department is in an old building with mediocre at best materials. Some of the music students are very good, but they cannot really reach their full potential in the facilities.
