As a sophomore currently in Hackley, I can only highly recommend the school. The academic program is one of the most rigorous out there even if it isn't noticeable in the school. Various AP classes and advanced electives are the common practice beginning sophomore year and beyond and some freshmen may even take some as well.

The English Department is considered the bane of most students' existence and goes into such analytical depth that it rivals any AP English course out there.

Transitioning from a public school to this could be difficult, especially if it's into the Upper School. The rigorous curriculum will challenge you, and lower grades than usual will appear. Our strongest science and math students who take on AP Physics C and Multivariable Calculus in senior year are subject to the two most difficult classes in the school, classes that can give test grades as low as 40 on a regular basis. It's worth it though, the experience is unforgettable.

I began at Hackley School in ninth grade, and since then I've had an amazing time. The teachers are always helpful and available to meet, open to extra credit assignments and help, and my writing has improved immensely since I began here. The students are friendly and ambitious, and the community is incredibly helpful for shaping young minds. I was fortunate enough to take advantage of the amazing athletics facilities, performing arts department, and peer tutoring opportunities. The sky is the limit here, if you know what you're looking for in a high school.
I have been born and raised in the local area and know a lot about the local schools, public and private. I went to public but am sending my girls to Hackley instead of going through the public school system. We started in K and are now in 2nd with my first daughter. I volunteer so i spend aIot of time during school hours watching how everything works and how the kids interact with each other and the teachers. I am more and more amazed every year at how amazing and in tune the teachers are with the needs of the children. The students come from many different areas (geographical) and backgrounds as well. I can tell you that other local private schools pretty much accept kids with similar backgrounds as well as all living in the same two surrounding towns. I couldn't be more impressed with this amazing school from the campus to the faculty to the students to the parents.
