I've been going to this school for the last 4 years of my life and I've seen it shift, change and grow. It really is a wonderful school! Sure, there are things we need improvement on, but they really care about the students there. They go out of their way to help. Especially for it to be in such an underfunded area on the Southside of Chicago with majority minority students, they've done an excellent job preparing us and setting is above what the mainstream says we could become. I truly believe if I'd went to any other school I'd have been worse off.

When I first entered Brooks it was a completely new experience. I was used to my comfortable environment surrounded by other Latinx students. Brooks was a huge culture shock when I was met with an abundance of black students. But I do not regret coming to this school at all. It has the most diverse set of faculty and students. There's not a single student that comes from the same background, and all students are allowed to embrace it in the school environment. The academics at Brooks is superb. During my freshman year, I was already taking honors classes and AP classes. I wasn't just thrown into these classes because the teachers made it an easy transition with their teaching methods. As a senior, I am even allowed to be a learning assistant to our academic center that is made up of seventh and eighth-graders. I'm already learning to teach other students who are going through a similar path as me.
I would like to see them take better care of the inside of the school. Like getting rid of insects and paying more attention to the bathrooms. I do enjoy the fact there isn't groups within the school. Everyone supports each other and the people you least expect would become friends somehow do. There are rarely any fights and there is always a celebration to acknowledge those who are awarded for their hard work. We are given plenty of opportunities to achieve, and all tutoring is provided. We are even given the opportunity to part-take in off-campus programs/classes, mine being Genesys Works.
