I like the options of classes available to students! It was nice picking electives that other schools don't have. However, I would like to see a better no tolerance policy for hate crimes. I had several classmates get hate crimed in school for their race, sexuality, or gender identity often and there was either no punishment or very little.
Gull Lake provided many opportunities for students who were willing to commit to their academics as well as the various extracurricular activities that the district offers. I really enjoyed the option and encouragement of taking AP classes and exams which has helped me immensely in starting my college career. I thought that the teaching staff was overall committed to teaching and guiding students towards success in all sorts of postsecondary options. I think that the district already does a good job of teaching study skills, but of the things I would critique would be putting even more emphasis on study skills as well as life skills (financials, taxes, personal wellness, etc.).
Most importantly, I believe that I received a quality high school education. I was afforded the opportunity to take a variety of challenging and interesting classes in the arts, math, finance and foreign languages. There was also an opportunity to travel abroad in some of the foreign language classes.
My school was nice, modern and clean. It was in a safe community.
I enjoyed participating in many extra curricular activities and sports, specifically basketball and track.
If I could change anything about my school, I would make it more diverse. I would like to see more students, teachers and administrators of color.
