Essentially, I believe that as a blue-ribbon school with a vast amount of resources, Guilford High School set me up for excellency and allowed me to get in to a prestigious college that I now really love. I was able to take countless AP classes in subjects I was interested in as well as undergo my own independent study through the Capstone program. It did also largely support the arts, which were important to me as a musician. However, its impossibly high standards contributed to the mental health crisis that I experienced during my teen years. Mental health was not at all a priority, and when it was dealt with, it was done so very poorly.
Guilford High School is an engaging, challenging, and cooperative environment with driven teachers who push each and every student to perform to the highest standard. With a sweeping variety of AP, IB, and ECE classes, the alumni tend to perform outstandingly in college or post-high school environments. Guilford High School additionally has a reputation of being extremely high achieving in the performing arts, with one of the best theater and music programs on the shoreline.
As a current student at GHS, I would say it’s a very decent school and experience. The school is brand new and super high tech. However, some teachers aren’t the best at helping you learn, and you may end up teaching yourselves (has only happened to me once). They are very open about having a no bullying policy but sometimes it still happens (they take it seriously and listen to you). I am graduating next year and they have been very helpful preparing me for college. I like it here. The theater program at GHS is INCREDIBLE. Highly recommend joining or seeing their productions.
