I believe my school has done a great job balancing academics, athletics and extracurricular activities. They provide students with many opportunities to participate in the things that they enjoy. Students are free to create clubs and groups that fit their interests if one doesn't already exist. These clubs are a great way to meet new people and learn in the process. The thing I appreciate most is the dedication from the teachers, they are there to help in any way they can. Whether it is helping a student who is struggling to read or advancing a kid who is excelling in math, each student is pushed to bring out their best self. Grosse Ile is such a small school that it has created a family-like atmosphere. The staff and students support each other, which is a comforting feeling when going to school each day.
This is a school in steep decline. The Special Ed Department--not just a teacher--has turned over twice in the past year. The best teachers are leaving in droves (25%--8 out of 30-some) in the last year alone. Administration plays games with staff (minor offenses are met with maximum discipline)and some staff get "favors" for turning others in. Morale among adults in the building is below rock bottom.
Academically, test scores are falling as a result. AP classes are awarded by favoritism, and scores are a joke, compared to other local schools. There are as many burnt-out teachers as ones who really try, and the school community overall is very conformist, very nasty (lots of online harassment and bullying) and mean-girly. If you can afford to go elsewhere, do it--otherwise, this isn't a bad public school, just not a good one.

Overall, I liked my high school. Grosse Ile High School is a small, close-knit, public school that helped me prepare for college. The teachers are all wonderful and the friends I made I know will be around for a lifetime. I learned a lot in a short amount of time in a good environment and I am pleased with my experience. One thing I wish were different is that I wish they offered more classes that were for specific majors.
