From Grier School

Grier School is a girls' boarding school founded in 1853. Students learn in a supportive environment and become emboldened, engaged, and poised for the future. Young women find in-depth scholarship and wide variety in the Grier curriculum. At Grier, girls achieve a balance of analytical thinking, creative expression, and physical fitness. The purposeful balance in offerings ensures students graduate with technical knowledge in STEM and broad skills developed in the humanities, such as the ability to think critically, communicate clearly, and solve complex problems.

VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS

The arts are an integral part of Grier, where artists and performers are celebrated. In fact, Fine Art, Dance, and Music compose three of Grier’s four signature programs. Each program offers classes from novice through advanced levels, including a pre-professional program for dancers and AP Portfolio class for artists. Our most advanced visual and performing arts students are at the Grier School.

My daughter attended this school and had a horrible experience. You should know that parents are not allowed to speak directly to the teachers or to the house mothers. If you have a child that needs support, there is no community to support them because Gina Borst is the only point of contact. During Covid-19, the students had only 1 hour of class M-R, but tuition was not refunded. The scholar's program is a joke. The classes are at grade level. Most of the advertised programs, particularly ADHD support don't exist. What you get is a tutor who watches your kid do homework. The cafeteria is gross and the food served is not healthy. The dorms are old and falling apart. They offer great scholarships to entice enrollment that is supported by the Asian students, which make up most of the student body. That's who the school focuses on the most. Don't be fooled. I would never send my child to this school again. She's not going back.

I love the Grier School because it allows me to do the things I love. I am a dancer and going to a boarding school for dance is hard because you either don’t get to focus on your education too. But with Grier, I get to focus on both. I have improved so much and been opened to so many new opportunities from the Grier School. I have also made the best friends I could ever ask for!
such a diverse school with great faculty and staffs! I have been in Grier School for 6 years and I am happy to share my experience. The place is very safe and secure, has tons of activities and academic programs.
