Gretna High School Reviews

The academics are alright. Because of the quickly growing district, the school is able to add new classes every year. The teachers can range from passionate mentors who completely enlighten your view of the world to frustratingly ignorant dictators. The administration has also let down the students in terms of safety. They do very little in cases of sexual harassment, severe discrimination and students struggling with addiction.
On a brighter note, this school is exceptional in its performing arts. The One Act program has won state for over a decade straight now, which is quite an accomplishment. The band program also isn't bad either. The students here regularly get superior ratings on all their ensembles and solos, while the marching band has swept nearly every competition they've attended for the past two years. Although I can't say much about our sports, I can confidently say that this school gives just as much as its students do (which is quite a bit). Overall, an ok school.

Gretna High School is a wonderful place to be. The people there are awesome and caring. It is an amazing school with awesome academics, awesome teachers, awesome administration, awesome athletics and awesome everything. Gretna High School prepares students for life. I highly encourage anyone to go to Gretna High School. It is a big school but has wonderful community values. Gretna High School has amazing and supportive parents who want their kids going to a good school. The people who have gone through Gretna Public Schools land wonderful jobs.
While Gretna High School on paper is an outstanding school (i.e high ACT/SAT scores and graduation rates), it's important to note the toxic environment that it has gained from that. As someone who has grown up their whole life in Gretna, the schools' elitist white privilege's evident from miles away. Throughout the years, specifically the high school, I'm surrounded by students who believe that our schools scores are due to the fact of low diversity rates, and being predominantly white. The low effort curriculum giving for our physical Arts Department (sculpture, design and illustration) has left me ill-prepared for my future. It's important to note, that my relationship with the art teachers has been nothing but positive. The administration's head, REX ANDERSON, defends the lack of any AP classes for the fact that his son didn't end up utilizing them in his profession. Gretna: racist, bigoted, privileged and toxic.
