Gregory-Portland High School Reviews
Rating 3.75 out of 5 237 reviews
Over the four years I frequented this school, I greatly enjoyed the educational environment and experience. The programs Gregory-Portland High School offers are geared towards helping students progress to an eventual full-time job position in multiple fields. Specifically their endorsement program provided students with many career and study options by offering different paths of classes students could take during their four year stay. The music programs are top-notch. Because of excellent staff, many students made their way to high-level music competitions. The experience here is unique, and you can tell the employees genuinely want your success!
Gregory-Portland High School was an incredible school; however, there is always room for improvement. While there were some traditions that enriched the culture at Gregory-Portland, there were also many values that allowed for an environment that alienated certain students. For example, the dress code are Gregory-Portland high school created an imbalanced experience for the female students. There was also often times that students of certain backgrounds faced microaggressions that weren't considered important enough to tackle. Despite this, during my last year at Gregory-Portland, I saw real change take place as a result of new management and a changing student body. I have faith that Gregory-Portland High School is on a path to be not just a phenomenal school distract as far as opportunities, but a school district that cares about the individual and their unique and diverse experiences.
Gregory-Portland High School has a variety of clubs, sports and associations for your child to find their niche, if there is not something there your child is interested in, they can always create a club. The teachers and staff are very open minded and are there for your child's benefit. I never felt alone walking through the halls and knew that if I needed help with school work, sports or a personal time out my teachers and coaches would be right by my side. I always knew that I was safe at Gregory-Portland, not just because the teachers were reliable but we had security guards in all of the five hallways, and metal detectors at every entrance of the school. Parents were able to join for school events such as pep rallies that were held every Friday, after going through a thorough check at the main door at the front of the building.
