Greenwood Laboratory School Reviews

Greenwood is a small private school with a hardworking and driven student body. Academics are fairly rigorous, and while sports culture is weak in comparison to larger schools, there seems to be high involvement in athletics despite the school's smaller numbers. The high school counselor, who has a great bond with all of the students, enhances school spirit and overall involvement in activities. It is very easy to create bonds with your teachers and have one-to-one learning opportunities due to the small class sizes, which I think is a factor behind the school's general academic success. Adjusting as a new student is easy, as most people are quite welcoming. Most students at Greenwood have known each other since kindergarten which creates very tight-knit classes, and thus a comfortable environment to be in, even as a newer student like myself. Overall, my experience at Greenwood was a positive one--I made good friends, close bonds with teachers and feel fairly prepared for college.

Greenwood has a competitive yet friendly environment, where students often feel like family. Being located on the Missouri State campus, there are plenty of resources available that can also prepare a student for life as an actual college student. There is academic support from most of the faculty, and students are provided with several different opportunities to make them stand out. Although growing up with the same thirty to forty people for thirteen years can be tiresome, it teaches the importance of resolving conflict and maintaining relationships. Having a close-knit student body helps build meaningful tradition by sharing it with the same peers year by year. The academics are vigorous, which helps prepare students for college curriculum. Greenwood provides many opportunities, but a student has to want to take advantage of those opportunities in order to succeed.
Greenwood Laboratory School has truly prepared me for a rigorous college curriculum. Teachers here understand the difference between challenging material and challenge through homework quantity. Is there lots of homework? Yes, but it never feels like the material is stale or the homework unnecessary. If you or your child is someone who is interested in expanding their horizons, Greenwood's staff and location on the Missouri State University campus provides many opportunities to do so. The university allows for students to enroll in classes, just like a college student. This allows for a wide variety of courses and fields to be discovered and enjoyed.
