The school district as a whole is over all pretty good. We are however, a poorer school, therefore, the students tend to have difficult home lives and struggle when it comes to staying focused. Teachers tend to believe none of us want to be there, hence teachers not feeling as motivated to teach. We are kind of generalized as "bad students." When a student does prove themselves as wanted in enhance their education, the school does everything in their power to give us the resources needed to do so.
I moved to Greensburg-Salem in the 7th grade. I have enjoyed the school's diverse amounts of activities and extracurriculars. I would like to see changes in the overall atmosphere of the school. I feel that some staff can be somewhat hostile and could be more considerate of the students.
My experience from Freshman to senior year at Greensburg Salem High school has been interesting. I was antisocial my freshman year and i didn't have many friends.I thought there was no purpose until i reached the next year. That year i found what i wanted to do with my life. I started getting better grades and engaging more with others. I realized i was a hands on person. Junior year, i was confused on what school i wanted to go to and with the help of the counselors, i wanted to pursue a career in electrical. Senior year, i seemed more passionate about clubs and getting engaged at the school. I visited colleges and now i know where i want to go. I liked how the teachers and counselors pushed me to take classes i never thought i would and how principles encouraged students and appreciated are accomplishes for the school. I also liked the clubs. Changes i like for the school would be to change the school lunches and make them healthier.
Greensburg Salem High School is a great school! The teachers are what make it great - they care and are always willing to talk and I consider most to be friends rather than teachers. Everyone here is very happy about Tyler Tech too!
As always, it's a great day to be a Golden Lion!!!
As always, it's a great day to be a Golden Lion!!!
The teachers are very good and clearly dedicated to their students. The administration, however, ignores all recommendations of teachers and refuses to make changes that would make the school better.
After attending Greensburg Salem High School I feel as if I was decently prepared for my future. There are definitely pros and cons to the school however the personal connection between student and teacher is unmatched. I developed amazing relationships with almost all of my teachers. The foreign language program is amazing and a large portion of the students graduate as bilingual. Finally, the academics are very good and the student has a lot of choice when it comes to creating their schedule. Having no class rank helped the individual to focus on oneself rather than what the other students were doing. I'm very grateful for my high school experience and I'm glad it was at Greensburg Salem.
My experience at Greensburg Salem is amazing. There is never a dull moment and always something to look foward to. All the staff want you to succeed, reach your goals, and are always willing to help.
This school is awful, there's something seriously wrong with people who think otherwise. The "guidance" counselors don't care about how you feel; it's like they don't know what to do when a student has a problem. It's hard to fit in, a lot of bullying. So glad my son won't be going here!!
Two children attended the school, no problems with academics. Would recommend the school district to others.
Greensburg Salem High School is unique in its atmosphere because of its students and faculty. I've never encountered a more caring, open-minded and diverse group of individuals as I have with the Greensburg Salem community. Not only are the academics fantastic but the extra-curricular activities are as well. In addition, everyone wants to see you succeed. Students and teachers alike. If I had to choose one thing to change it would most likely be adding funding for infrastructure. Our roof leaks in a few places.
What I love about Greensburg Salem is the teachers. They are very helpful and friendly, and very easy to talk to. Another thing, there is always someone who has your back. It is easy to find a group of friends to fit in with at Greensburg Salem so you never have to feel left out. The environment is very welcoming. The teachers, everyone in the guidance and main offices, the nurses, and every other staff member. And that is what makes a school worth going to. Learning comes easy with the help of the teachers and other students. And the school is filled with so many talented young people. I never liked going to school until I realized how much easier it is to be at a district with so many friendly faces and helpful teachers. I'm definitely going to miss this after graduation.
The work load is really up to the students.
It's mainly white girls that are favored by teachers.
It's unique because of the block scheduling. Days go fast with only 4 classes and seniors have the opportunity to graduate in December or do work release. Sadly there are only two languages offered which limits opportunity. I also think the cafeteria food should be healthier and more appetizing.
There is a wide variety of teachers so it is difficult to describe them as one group. I can conclude that every teacher I've had tries to communicate to a variety of learning styles. However, some of those activities seem pointless if it isn't your learning style. I had one teacher that helped me via Twitter when I missed class for a school event. Some teachers seem afraid to punish students because they make empty threats.
At Greensburg Salem, you were able to come early in the morning before school started to get caught up on some assignments if you were absent or to get tutored. It's the same way as well after school. Most teachers were available at the time. The block scheduling was so flexible that you got to bond with all the students in different grades in the school. The classes were longer and it helped prepare for college. The scheduling was easy because you got to pick your classes that you wanted to steer yourself for what you want to do in life, although you had to take some required core classes.
Its an accepting school but the environment is very judgmental and drama is always involved. I am a deaf student with two cochlear implants and I was accpted to the school by all the students and teachers. No one had a problem with me and I made decent amount of friends and I keep in touch with my teachers after I graduated high school. Most students were cool and didn't cause a lot of problems.
