From Greenhills School

For more than 50 years, Greenhills has maintained its steady focus on nurturing and educating curious, creative, and responsible citizens.
Students and faculty work together to create an environment where students and teachers know each other as more than a name on a classroom door or a line or two in a gradebook and cooperate to help our students realize their full potential in preparation for college – and beyond. This is a one-of-a-kind community where we bring out our students' brilliance. Where students learn their strengths, then learn to use those strengths to make a positive difference in the world.

College Counseling at Greenhills School

Self-knowledge is essential for the college process and for life, and we want our students to be as prepared as they can be for both. That’s why, starting freshman year, we get students to reflect on what matters to them. We help students find the college that will stir the most growth and prepare them for a meaningful, fulfilling life.

Amazing 6-12th grade experience for my recently-graduated son. Small classes and interdisciplinary projects kept him academically engaged. Bountiful arts opportunities — plays, musicals, student-run sketch comedy show, student-run “24-hour” show — gave him opportunities to grow into leadership and mentoring roles. Expensive but worth it!

The over the top attitude of the school is really what made me rate it as average. The school shines when it comes to academics but it constantly shoves “Diversity and Inclusion” down your throat. It’s good to talk about diversity and inclusion from time to time, but I don’t need a lecture on micro aggressions every week and a half. They made a dedicated class called “Fresh” which is completely useless. It’s meant to teach students “life lessons” but they’re organized and structured in ways that just test your patience. Imagine sitting in a room for an hour and 15 minutes watching paint dry. The activities aren’t fun nor creative, the “life lessons” don’t make sense half the time, and the class is boring and a waste of time. I could’ve taken any other class such as acting, but instead I was forced to wait out an hour and 15 minutes in fresh. The administration doesn’t seem to care about the students either. They ignore any criticism sent their way.
My time at Greenhills was a mixed bag. While I met some amazing people, I also often felt not good enough most of the time. Greenhills fosters a highly competitive atmosphere. An atmosphere where it feels as if only A’s are acceptable. From sixth grade on students are pushed exceptionally harder than students at other school. Greenhills students are expected to be everything and more. While in middle school most teachers would ask how their workload was each night. When teachers were met with students saying they spent hours doing homework for each class they would say it wasn’t their intention that we spend 1.5 hours on homework, but wouldn’t assign any less. From sixth grade on most of my classmates were staying up past 12 A.M. after coming home from competing on a sports team, or participating in Model U.N. or Forensics. This kind of pressure on young kids can be really tough to handle. Overall Greenhills is a good academic school but is also highly competitive.
