This is my first year in GRC since transferring from Landstown High School. Green Run Collegiate has supplied me with classes that fit my needs, as well as better organization skills to help me maintain my workload. Coming to GRC has helped me make new friends, work on bringing my GPA back up, practice good leadership, and perform to the best of my abilities. I have always been in honors and advanced classes, but GRC has offered me a chance to take classes that could potentially lead to college credits. One thing I would change about GRC, is the structure of the school itself. The school is really small, but contains a lot of kids considering that regular Green Run kids and GRC kids are all rushing to classes at the same time. I love how they have such high standards, it truly prepares us for the real world. Some of these high standards consist of; limited tardies and absences before punished, high GPA, and community service hours!
Throughout high school, it has been a subpar school where it helps students learn to manage time and some of the teachers are great. It opens students to many pathways to consider after high school. However, there is competition among the students. There are few, undisclosed teachers at the school that are discriminatory towards certain groups of people. The newer administration does not help the students much with finding outside opportunities, which changed in 2019. The old administration did open students to finding outside career opportunities. The administration also attempts to direct students towards a certain path; this could be negative in that students or the parents are not making the decisions that are right for them. Something I do not understand is that it's claimed under "Best in Norfolk", they don't serve Norfolk students. Definite socioeconomic-class divide, indiscreetly, compared to previous bodies of students
Green Run Collegiate was the perfect school for me to attend during high school. It is located inside of the same school that I am zoned for, placing me in an environment where I was familiar with lots of the other students. They have always pushed me harder to strive and be the best student I could possibly be. They have great staff members who I can easily speak to and feel very comfortable asking questions and talking about my life too. The teachers are also very caring and made it very easy to build relationships with them. They have a 100% acceptance rate into college and also provide students with a lot of outside learning opportunities instead of staying in the classroom. Green Run Collegiate was perfect for me and I would recommend it to others.
