Green Hope High School offers a variety of classes, at the honors, academic, and AP level. There are also many clubs available. At Green Hope, there are also many opportunities for free tutoring during lunch, and students also have opportunities during lunch to meet with their teachers. However, the communication between the school and families is abysmal. The weekly newsletter send to parents is usually very unhelpful. For example, when it was time for the Pre-ACTs, the newsletter only told parents a week in advance! There is also little to no information about what the clubs actually do, and to find information, students must either email the club president directly or attend every single interest meeting! It is very inconvenient, and can discourage students from joining clubs. Overall however, Green Hope High School is a very good school, especially when compared to other schools in the county.
Green Hope helped prepare me for the enormous amounts of work I would soon receive in college. The curriculum prepares you very well academically but there does not seem to be much care for mental health. There is a huge emphasis in sports and grades as is with most schools. It definitely could have been a lot worse but I would have loved if there was real programs put in place to help struggling students. Luckily the staff is wonderful, not the guidance counselors (they need more mental health training), and the extracurriculars especially those in the arts can help alleviate the stress that comes with school. It is a well funded school with high competition with the students so I'd definitely recommend finding a hobby or something you love to help get through the hard days. Overall Green Hope provided me with the best future and resources it possibly could.
GHHS is a great school but I wish it had prepared me better for life after high school! I knew nothing about dual enrollment, military service, or college opportunities and wish I had been given information about those things so I wasn't completely lost when I graduated.
