Just about every teacher I had during my four years at GOHS were extremely passionate and talented. The administration impressively remembered my name even though I was introverted/quiet; not to mention the fact that I was one of thousands of students. The school spirit as well was something else there! A couple years after I graduated I remember seeing a viral video of one of our football games with the caption "I wish this was my high school." I quickly realized that it was GOHS! So GOHS is certainly a great high school whether one is looking for a high quality academic, athletic, or simply a fun experience.
It is a great environment and has a class or club for any interest! No two teachers teach the same; now that may sound strange but it allows for students that have different learning styles to find the perfect fit for them. All the students are fun and even the students that come from other states or even countries can find friends that will stick by their side throughout high school. The school offers different levels/difficulties for multiple subjects that allows for students to learn at a pace for them and not be slowed down or pushed to far. They do tend to try and push every student to take AP or IB classes, even when the students and their family believe it is not a great fit for the student. The athletics are also well known, we have many highly ranked programs and all the teams have fun together while they work hard. The main thing many college students tend to say is that they did not feel fully ready for college but they did feel prepared to work hard because of Great Oak.
I was a lucky enough to be a freshman the first year that my high school was opened. The teachers were clearly chosen through rigorous standards because each one that I had gave me the attention I needed and, at some times, the attention I didn't even deserve as I was a difficult student. The staff was always so friendly and remembered my name, shout out to the lunch ladies! The ties to the community were strong as we had a lot of local business sponsorship for our sports teams and we were able to do community service in our immediate area. It was a very clean school and I always felt safe. If I weren't so thick-skulled back then I would have learned a lot more, makes me wish I could go back and do it again.
