I had two children attend this school, one graduated and one left for ACP. CPA Pros- students are very close , Drama and language programs impressive, great administration. Cons: Zero off level classes (too hard-too bad), barely any electives and all the fine arts classes aren't for everyone. Very little teaching past Europe, ancient Greece and Rome. My daughter has little background understand to what's happening anywhere in the news today. Most editing of writing I saw was done by other students or us at home.
College: NO AP credits for honors work, NO National Honor society. You NEED to choose a major early in college, not like when we went. My child went undecided one semester at ASU and she is BEHIND already to graduate. CPA has no electives to explore so choosing a major is hard. She loves science but had minimal experience beyond CPA's required classes and didn't know what field to go into. Compare the curriculum at other schools and think ahead.

Review Great Hearts Academies - Chandler Prep

Chandler Prep is an amazing school that I believe offers academics and college prep you can find in Arizona. Although the curriculum is more advanced, the smaller class sizes, diverse tutoring schedules, and mixed teaching styles ensure that every student has an opportunity for success. Chandler Prep is strong academically, however, it lacks many "classic" high school aspects. By that I mean dances are small and low-budget, minimal varieties for clubs or electives and no-cut sports teams. Chandler Prep students will be academically strong and prepared for anything the future holds for them, however, they will miss out on many of the experiences that made high school so memorable.

Chandler Prep certainly lived up to its reputation in my middle school years. Once I reached high school and the pandemic struck, everything was toned down and the curriculum was no longer as rigorous as before. Even after the pandemic passed, subject material was not as challenging.I noticed that students became lazier with their school work. While all of the classes may be labelled as honors classes, they are not AP classes, which means that a student is unable to get college credit through these classes. The best part about CPA for me is that students form very close connections with the teachers, who are willing to help their students succeed. Some of my closest relationships with people at CPA were teachers, who supported me in difficult subject areas. I am in fact very close with my senior thesis advisor, with whom I hope to remain in close contact in the coming years. Overall, CPA teaches its students how to think critically, but it does not help get ready for college.
