I was very fortunate to have attended Granville Early College High School all 4 years of high school. It’s a small, tightly knit school family where the teachers truly know and care about the students. Although we students are still considered kids, the teachers went out of their way to build relationships and support students there. I felt I learned a lot and worked hard, especially compared to other high schools in my county.
Granville Early College High School is an amazing schools with amazing teachers and resources. I think the program it offers is fantastic to get your diploma and associates degree at the same time. The only downfall to going to the school is the lack of sports, but the system they have in place allows you to play sports at your home school. This is what I did and it worked out great!! However, don’t get me wrong with a program like this is does take a lot of work, time, and energy to be successful.
Granville early college is a hard, but amazing program. Attending this school and graduating was one of the best decisions I've ever been a part of. Going here allows you to get your diploma and an associate's degree in 4 or 5 years. There is a lot of work for a first time high school student, but once you adjust the payoff is way more than the struggle. The teachers at the high school are nice, and almost all of them are good at teaching the material. The biggest problem with the school is the difficulty, you take college courses too, and with those teachers can be really good and easy, or could be the total opposite. Once you graduate you will realize everything was worth it, going to school with a huge advancement.
My experience at Granville Early College is one that I will never forget. In four years, I not only earned my diploma but my associate's degree as well. However, it was not without struggle. I went through math tutors like outfits, constantly switching them out, trying to figure out which one worked best for me. The classes at early college were all honors classes and considering that I was already bad at math you can imagine how much I struggled. Attending Granville Early College was one of the hardest things I have ever endured, but I am proud to say that it was all worth it.
GECHS will offer students a 5-year course of study. At the end of 5 years, students will have the opportunity to complete their high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree or up to two years of college transferable credit. All of this is free to the students.
There are 3 Associate’s Degrees that students can choose to work on. The Associate of Arts is for students that want to transfer to a four-year college. The Associate in Applied Sciences Degrees in Business Administration or Office Systems Technology is for students that want to go straight into the workforce after high school. Regardless of which degree students choose to work on, they will be getting a jump start on their future. Another key component of GECHS will be our focus on 21st Century skills. Every GECHS student will be provided their own laptop computer to use throughout their high school career.

Going to GECHS has been such a wonderful opportunity. While I did not have the typical high school experience, I am grateful that I decided to attend GECHS because I am confident that I am prepared for college.
I really enjoyed my time at Early College. The teachers and staff here are committed to your success and there are plenty of resources available to help you succeed. Students here are very friendly; there's no issue of bullying at this school. Students are given a lot of freedom, especially in junior and senior years, which I feel prepares them to become more responsible and independent. The only downsides of going here are the lack of clubs and sports (though you can still participate in these things at your home school in the county) and that there's no real school spirit.
I have absolutely loved my experience at GECHS. Since this school is small, it is easy to get to know your peers and build personal relationships with all of the staff. All of the classes are Honors here so they can be challenging, but nothing the students can’t handle. With close proximity to a public library AND VGCC’s library, there are enough resources to succeed at this school, tutors included. The downfall of this school is the lacking school spirit and student involvement. There are only three clubs at this school and none of them have high participation. Because the school is so small, there are no sports teams to be a part in. You CAN participate in sports and activities at your home school but it’s not the same. I enjoy the class flexibility here and that students are allowed to come and go freely their junior and senior year but it’s still a lot different than a traditional high school experience.
I am a junior in high school and have taken college courses since my freshman year. This school has a program that in 5 years (4 high school and 1 college year) you graduate with an Associates degree, but I plan to graduate in 4 years with my high school diploma and Associates degree. The classes are small. Our faculty has only 10 members. The teachers teach multiple levels of their subject so you may have the same teacher several years in row. I play sports with my "local" high school- the school I would go to in my district. There are no electives so you really get to focus on the main courses. We do have prom and clubs after school.
Granville Early College High School is the most underestimated school ever. This schools differs from all the others schools. They give you a head start in life. They make sure you are prepared from the hard times in life and the easiest. The administers and advisors are always there for support and always have open arms for each kid, no matter color of skin, ethnicity, or other factors that do not matter. What this school does for the community is absolutely substantial. With the head start that this school provides, the students there are able to achieve above and beyond when attending another college/university. Early College was the best choice anyone could of asked for and no matter the late nights of studying or the amount of hours I spent understanding homework, this was the best experience in my life and I would not change a thing.
I loved Granville Early College! The teachers and faculty are amazing! I love how the students get one-on-one lessons with the teachers, and they teachers are super understanding that it is a hard adjustment! Many clubs are offered and the after-school activities are great!
I liked how inclusive and welcoming the faculty and staff were. I love how the schools helps prepare its students by challenging our minds and encouraging us to really fit the mold to be great. Our school is in partnership with Vance Granville community college and helps us graduate with a high school diploma and an associate degree of our choice. This school was the best option for me because it’s an environment of encouragement and prosperity. I believe this was the only school for me as it is small and allows me to have close relationships with all of my teachers and professors!
I enjoyed that there were not as many students as a regular high school. Being able to take college courses and earn a two-year degree was a huge bonus and amazing opportunity to have. Teachers and other staff showed that they cared when it came to grades and things at home. Schedules were also very open (no designated lunch period and at least one break). I did not like that there were not many classes offered as "electives" and the workload could sometimes be overwhelming.
I love Granville Early College High School so much already! I am a freshman, and I just finished my first semester, but I know that this school is the right one for me. The teachers take the time to go through things step by step and always make sure we are comfortable with moving on. We are also given the opportunity to get tutoring from other students in our classes. Overall, Granville Early College High School is an amazing school, and I think that the upcoming freshman should apply!!
I liked the fact that I graduated with an associates degree as well as my high school diploma. I also thought that the staff was fantastic at the school, and really helped me to better myself, and they supported that.
Enjoyed the 4 years at Granville Early College High School. Decided to complete in 4 years instead of 5. The program was very rigorous but it helped me to stay focused on my goals. like the small class size. I like that I will have a 2 year associates in Science Degree when I graduate in May. I feel that this program has well prepared me for a transfer to a 4 year college in the fall.
Early college did very well at preparing me for college. I would like to see the high school and the college advisors work together better.
