My high school experience is distinct to that of many, beginning with the fact that Granville Early College is not a traditional high school. The program allows pupils to work towards a high school diploma and an Associate's degree simultaneously. This is achieved by attending college courses offered at Vance Granville Community College campuses instead of traditional high school electives while completing core subject courses in the high school facility. As a result of only offering a small amount of courses, this facility is a short, well-kept hallway, comprised of six classrooms, a cafeteria, bathrooms, and offices of administration. In addition to the higher education opportunity, this school provides a small, close-knit environment, focused on the success of every student.
GECHS will offer students a 5-year course of study. At the end of 5 years, students will have the opportunity to complete their high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree or up to two years of college transferable credit. All of this is free to the students.
There are 3 Associate’s Degrees that students can choose to work on. The Associate of Arts is for students that want to transfer to a four-year college. The Associate in Applied Sciences Degrees in Business Administration or Office Systems Technology is for students that want to go straight into the workforce after high school. Regardless of which degree students choose to work on, they will be getting a jump start on their future. Another key component of GECHS will be our focus on 21st Century skills. Every GECHS student will be provided their own laptop computer to use throughout their high school career.

I liked how inclusive and welcoming the faculty and staff were. I love how the schools helps prepare its students by challenging our minds and encouraging us to really fit the mold to be great. Our school is in partnership with Vance Granville community college and helps us graduate with a high school diploma and an associate degree of our choice. This school was the best option for me because it’s an environment of encouragement and prosperity. I believe this was the only school for me as it is small and allows me to have close relationships with all of my teachers and professors!
