Grant Union High School Reviews
Rating 3.78 out of 5 352 reviews
Grant Union High School is a good school, it has good teachers and the diversity here makes me feel comfortable. However, I am a student who has the privilege of being in high-level courses, therefore, I am surrounded by good teachers who do teach me a lot about their designated curriculums. I also have the privilege of not being involved in the more trivial aspects of the school atmosphere, therefore, I feel more comfortable compared to some other students. The majority of my school-based issues are targeted toward the American school system as a whole rather than the school itself, however, one issue that I see in my school is the lack of parental involvement. I do not know the details nor the methods the school is enacting to garner more involvement from parents, however, I do understand it is hard to get parents involved within the school. Especially since the school is populated and situated in a less privileged setting compared to other educational institutions.
I loved my teachers, but certain things clashed with how we were taught. Often our teachers would ask us, "What can we do to help you better?" During senior year, my teachers asked us this and I felt heard and seen. After COVID everyone was scrambling to have everything go back to normal, them asking us this question made it feel, a bit normal. Before senior year, some teachers- like my math teacher (who no longer works there) only has given us packets and sent us off that way. But as time went on, the teachers that stayed didn't give us packets but instead interacted with us and told us to ask questions. What makes Grant Union High School are the people, and the students there. I would like to change how students act (a lot of them are immature, but with time they change too) I guess I would like to see a change in how teachers interact with students and be patient. We learn in time.
Grant Union High School was a school I was not mentally prepared for. The events there were amazing; however, the students there did not make me feel welcomed. Many might disagree with such an opinion but it should be validated. I am someone who has engaged in many school events during the start of junior year and will continue that until the day I graduate. The counselors are extremely helpful with guiding me through the A-G path. Their words made me realize how important school is, specifically junior year. That is the year that colleges will be looking at especially. Grant provides many opportunities and I have yet to apply for all. I am happy where I’m at and have come so far.
