I liked Granite Bay High School. It allowed me to get involved with the school newspaper and NHS, and there are so many opportunities to get involved. We have an amazing theater program, band program, sports programs, etc. There are some amazing teachers, many average teachers, and inevitably, those teachers who just shouldn't be teachers. I'd say culture is very non-academic, and I really struggled to fit in as a nerdy person and as an Asian-American. Our high school constantly pushes for the notion that we're like super, super smart when the reality is we're pretty average. Not that many students go on to top tier colleges, but we have a fair share of UC students and tons of students who matriculate to community college. I'd say the culture is extremely sports-oriented and business-oriented, and Granite Bay students and faculty seriously lacks diversity, located in a quintessential conservative white suburbia. But I'm overall thankful for my education.

Granite Bay High School offers a fantastic environment for learning. The school has a lot of pride within the community and offers several ways to get involved. I feel safe here and am surrounded by a peer group that supports each other. I have been able to succeed in my sport (we have championship teams); I have had plenty of options available to take AP and IB classes; the teachers are intelligent and keep classes pretty interesting; and the activities are well planned and fun, so that students have many things they can do on and off-campus to support the school.
What I liked about Granite Bay High School is all of the programs they offer, and how they equally like to give every program their own special attention and recognition. They are very inclusive of all of the programs and make sure to reassure people that they are teachable and everyone is able to at least try it out. What I would change are the cliches that play a key role into classes as well. If there is a certain cliche that all have the same class, it affects what is happening within the classroom as well. It can separate the class and doesn't allow it to be used as a full teaching opportunity.
