Grandview Heights High School is one that puts a great deal of effort into academics and does a fair job at catering to individual needs. Grandview has a large variety of AP and college classes for its rather small size, most of which are taught by excellent teachers. Multiple counselors are available at most times for a variety of needs, and the main college counselor is very helpful and enthusiastic. The school has a friendly environment and has a slew of extracurriculars available. The largest issue that I notice is that Grandview Heights High School and the community as a whole lacks diversity. I also feel like the teachers may be a little to generous with retakes and test corrections. I feel like the large amount of ways to get points back may detract from college readiness. I don’t want to complain too much about free points though.
Very good programs, overall good teachers and many things for students to be a part of. However, it’s a very small school, so the clique atmosphere is heavy and may take away from the enjoyment of the high school experience. Generally, it gets better as you get older and have more freedoms and individual experiences. There’s an occasional mean teacher, but you usually only see that side of them if you frequently misbehave. Many elective options, the new buildings are very cool, and overall a good school to attend.
The school district really does care about the future of their students. As the student-teacher ratio is 1:18, students are able to form strong relationships with the teachers. Even though GHHS is a small district, they offer many rigorous courses for students that seek challenge. One aspect the district lacks greatly is racial and cultural diversity, which has been an ongoing concern in the Grandview school district for years.
