I have been at Uprep since 6th grade and I am currently a senior. Uprep is very different from other schools in both positive and negative ways. I love the small classroom sizes it gives the students more one on one time with their teachers. I also enjoy most of the staff because they go out of their way to teach the curriculum in fun engaging ways. I also like all of the opportunities we are giving starting in the sixth grade with reverse job shadows. Also making time to have mental breaks after PSATs or big test like in 8th grade when students who met the requirements were allowed to go to camp. I also think we are a very unique school because starting in 6th grade all the way until you graduate you have to do a presentation twice a year on what you have learned in each core class and what you plan to do to improve. The only negative I have is that we do not have a gym, auditorium, or a traditional library. I think these things will only make our school better.
Grand Rapids University Preparatory Academy is a public school where you can create new friendships very fast. It's a school to find your purpose. A school where you can grow and expand your learning. The teachers are all caring and push you to your best version to do better. This school is a college preparedness school. Personally, it has made me much more ready to take the step of going into college. Everything this school has taught me has prepared me to do college work, everything from writing essays, speaking in front of an audience, presenting a power point. We do exhibitions two times a year, every year. The exhibitions are telling the audience what we learned in that semester. Exhibitions have helped me even though at first, I hated doing them. Later, I got used to them and eventually found that they helped me with talking better in audiences. This school has taught me a lot, importantly how to take the next step which is college.
Here at Grand Rapids University Academy, I have received an excellent education to prepare me for college. The teachers are excellent and it offers many helpful programs to help me get ahead in life, the only thing keeping it from five stars is the students and stress.
