I attended Grand Junction HIgh School for three years, and I graduated from there this May, 2020. To start off with, the school grounds and buildings are very old and run-down. There were gas leaks, which shut down part of the school grounds for a few days. The bathrooms are extremely old, dirty, and outdated. And a teacher informed me that there is asbestos on many classroom ceilings. It is sad that there is not more community involvement. The community had the opportunity to vote to build a new school, but they voted against it. Playing varsity football, I definitely saw the lack of involvement from the community at football games. It is pretty sad. I would have also liked to have seen more school spirit. It is quite obvious that motivation and high spirits are lacking at this school and in this community. On the positive side, everyone was easy to get along with, including teachers. Most teachers were very helpful. The classes were very educational with many options.

I had a really memorable experience within the band program. Isaac Lavadie, the band director, changed my life and went out of his way to support every student he had. Mr. Whiteford is the whole reason I got interested in anthropology and want to go into the field. I wish that there were more teachers who cared as much as them and helped each student feel valued and important within the school. The students attending the school were difficult to get along with and frankly rude and disrespectful. I hope the school will do more to work on bullying and help with mental health. I felt uncomfortable bringing up my mental health with anyone but Mr. Lavadie at the school, and I hope that could change for students in the future. However, overall I made good memories and had decent experiences.
In Grand Junction High School kids have many opportunity to show their talents. and specialness. Everyone is very respectful towards each other. In this school there is all kinds of different student. Some are white, African american ,asian and etc. But no one feels they don't belong there. Everyone feels like they belong in the school and is special. The teachers are very kind toward the students. Some are very funny and that help make student learn better. Teachers puts a lot of effort to help their student even if school was already over. Grand Junction High School have all kind of resources for students to use. There is nothing that the school don't have. The school really values student who put effort even if they are not smart. Overall this is a school everyone should consider going.
