From Goethe International Charter School

Since 2009, Goethe International Charter School (GICS) has been offering a unique learning program with an international focus. GICS is a tuition-free independent charter school that provides a rigorous curriculum for all students that challenges the mind and nourishes the heart. Named after scientist and philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (pronounced “Gurta”) GICS is an authorized International Baccalaureate World School and includes dual language German immersion and Language Acquisition (Spanish and German) programs which underscore our global perspective. Goethe International Charter School has earned recognition as a California Distinguished School in 2023 and 2014, a Gold Ribbon School in 2016, a Green Ribbon School in 2017 and has also earned full accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Our approach to learning is based on Inquiry and encourages critical thinking for all students. Come for a visit and consider joining our community!

We have found this to be a truly wonderful school with outstanding teachers, devoted administrators and a diverse community. We love the project based learning and critical thinking skills that our son is gaining through the International Baccalaureate (IB) program provided at the school. We also really value the opportunity that he has to learn TWO new languages, through German immersion and then Spanish beginning in third grade. Moreover, the school community really is international and very diverse. We love how different cultures and traditions are highlighted throughout the curriculum and school activities. Additionally, we have been really thrilled by the individualized attention that our son receives. The teachers and staff all really take the time to get to know individual students and their families, and are there to provide support and encouragement to all of us!

Review Goethe International Charter School

We are so happy that we found Goethe International Charter School! The IB learner program is fantastic, with German immersion and elective Spanish. Our kids are thriving, becoming critical, independent thinkers with an education for the global economy. During the pandemic, I felt that GICS was the safest place they could be, with weekly testing on school grounds, small class sizes, teachers and an administration that go above and beyond. Parents can be actively involved at Goethe International Charter School and we really feel that we are part of a community.

I have been a Goethe parent for 7 years now - since 2014 - with two children attending this very unique and special charter school. Our son completed all of his elementary school years at Goethe International Charter School, and now our daughter is about to begin 4th grade. I have volunteered for a few years on a parent advisory committee that meets with administration, so I have also seen some of the inner workings of our school. The administrators and teachers are top-notch - cultivating a caring community that not only prioritizes academics but also social emotional learning for all students. It is not essential to have German as a language spoken in your home; having your child attend a language immersion school is a lifelong gift. And the diversity of the student body is notable - for me, this has been another lifelong gift for my children. I'm so grateful for this tuition-free opportunity for my kids! I give this school my highest recommendation.
