People will say a lot of bad things about GlenOak, but they have very good academic and arts programs, a variety of extracurriculars, and teachers who really care. There are some things that are lacking, though. Diversity amongst teachers and staff can definitely be better, and there need to be more counseling and aide staff on deck to tend to the students for their needs, especially when it comes to corroborating the master schedule. There also needs to be a more equal distribution of wealth for programs there. Some receive more attention, publicity, and funding than others, resulting in students and teachers not having the resources they need to make the most out of their programs. I digress, but hard working teachers and staff, high diversity in student body and a plethora of things to do make GlenOak quite the experience to remember.
The Glenoak high school is extremely diverse; there are foreign exchange students, the flags of about 15 other countries are hanging in the main hallway, there are students who have a lot of money and there are ones that have the opposite, there is all sorts of different ethnics and races there, students commonly speak another language other than English. With almost 2.000 students, there is a place for every child at Glenoak. There are a wide verity of classes, including AP, IB, and College Course classes, along with four different foreign languages available to students, taking into consideration that they offer both American Sign Language and Chinese classes. There are also a lot of Career Tech classes, where students can learn about specific careers they would like to go into in the future, some examples are; horticulture, construction, photography, nursing, cosmetology, music production, and more. Glenoak prides itself on its sports and its theater productions as well.
I have loved attending GlenOak High School due to the diversity. Not only are there different races, but people of all different backgrounds, all different religions, and all different beliefs all working together to get through school. It has given me the opportunity to make all sorts of friends and relationships and really opened my eyes to the different ways that people live. I believe this prepares me extremely well for the future and for what I will accomplish as I continue to grow and learn. It also has an extreme stress on the arts, which has made my experience meaningful and extremely enjoyable.
