Glenbrook South High School Reviews

Great School! A lot of resources available to students to guarantee success, but it all depends on the student's intent. Advising could definitely be better in terms of a more thorough pipeline after graduating instead of just classes. The school facilities are unmatched thought. It is incredible how big the campus is and how many resources the school has. Many schools in the state can only dream of such facilities as 2 pools, the sports fields, and the state of the art technology. My experience at GBS had some issues because at times the school ran itself in a very totalitarian way. The school administrators rarely advocated for the growth among students belonging to lower class families. This also translated to inability to motivate social mobility, by having more disadvantaged students not be tempted to take advanced placement courses. Regardless the school prepared me well for college.
As my Freshman year at Glenbrook South has ended, I feel like I’ve learned a lot. My favorite part was by far the people there. Whether it was the friends that I made or my teachers, there was always someone there to talk when I needed it. Everyone was welcoming and helpful no matter what I needed. Coming from a small private school, one of the worst parts for me was opening up. Because no one from my old school came to Glenbrook South with me, I didn’t really know anyone in any of my classes. That made it really difficult in the beginning, but as the year went on, I realized that there was nothing to be worried about because of how kind everyone was. I’m very excited for my sophomore year!
I just finished my third year at GBS and I am very sad knowing next year is my last one. Our school spirit is unmatched and the school has endless resources to help students. One source is the TLC, (Titan Learning Center), where students can go before, during, and/or after school for free tutoring help. GBS's elective options are outstanding and having the power to take and learn about something you are passionate in is amazing. We do have fights around the school, but we also have security guards and parapros who reach them and disband them in minutes. I love GBS and wouldn't go anywhere else; if you are looking to transfer here or send your child here-- this is your sign! GBS is not perfect and I haven't had a 'perfect' time there (not referring to covid), but at the end of the day the school itself is amazing. There are going to be kids and teachers you 'have problems with' everywhere, but I rather 'have problems with' people at GBS than another school.
