I had a fantastic experience at Glenbrook North (GBN) High School! GBN got me into Harvard College from where I graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in economics and the Stanford Graduate School of Business from where I graduated with an MBA. GBN's teachers are fantastic and I'll fondly remember learning from them and being mentored by them. I was a member of the Glenbrook Academy of International Studies which is a nationally recognized program integrating the teaching and learning of English, Social Studies, and World Languages for students in the Glenbrook High Schools. Glenbrook Academy students are accepted at Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Yale and other prestigious universities.

The diverse range of extracurricular activities and student clubs offers students a wide range of activities in which to get involved. The facilities of the school are modern and excellent. School spirit is vibrant with everyone rooting for our sports teams. Go Spartans!

My fellow students and I had a positive experience at Glenbrook North, which can be attributed to the outstanding teachers and resources available to us. Each year, I was fortunate to learn under intelligent, caring teachers who often devoted their time to help struggling students. The support I received from a few key teachers improved my high school experience.

Despite these positives, I hit a few bumps during high school. As a hard-of-hearing student, I have a 504 plan and specific accommodations (the use of an Assistive Listening Device, closed captioning, etc). Despite the overall wonderful staff, I met harsh resistance against my accommodations from certain staff members. These obstacles made my high school experience rougher than it would have been otherwise. When I leave GBN this upcoming Spring, I sincerely hope the effort I have put into creating a school-wide awareness of the Deaf community will allow future disabled students to have an easier experience.
GBN is a great high school that gives students an opportunity to really soar academically or athletically if they so choose to work hard and achieve a lot at the school. Hopefully, the school can continue to improve their culture and make their academics and athletics even better as time progresses. There have been recent incidents of social intolerance and threats to safety, and I hope the administration continues to take steps that foster a tolerant and safe environment like holding forums on diversity and implementing continued safety measures.
