Glenbard West High School Reviews
Rating 4.14 out of 5 369 reviews
My children are currently the third generation to attend Glenbard West High School. This is not unusual, because families move to and stay in the community for the school. It is an amazing school with top notch and caring teachers, a dedicated administration and a high maintenance parent community. They continually exceed expectations and when they don't, the school addresses concerns to improve. When graduates attend college, they often reference that they were well prepared and were able to thrive in their higher education environment. The school works hard to be an environment that is welcoming to everyone!
My experience in Glenbard West during my four years was quite eventful. While we had good parts of the school, such as the sports teams, the games, the way that all alumni would get along and gather to cheer for our sports team, etc. It wasn’t always like that, though. Most administration did not worry or would shut students down when it came to concerns they had. In my time being there, I dealt with racism myself, and experienced racism and cyber-bullying from peers towards my POC friends. Some teachers taught well, they cared about us and took time out of their day to help us. Some teachers did not, and would throw us to the wolves and make us figure it out on our own. My experience wasn’t the best, nor the worst, but I look at college as new growth, new opportunities away from high school
Strong sense of community which is definitely drilled into you throughout your years at West. It’s a very high expectation, high achieving school. You will learn your limits and how comfortable you are with crossing them. Most if not all of the staff members are amazing and extremely encouraging in helping you prepare for your college journey. The school is big and there’s plenty of people to know. They offer every sport and extracurricular you can think of to it’s fullest potential and if there’s one missing, you can create it with the help of staff members!! Back to their selection, West actually also offers a wide variety of World Languages at all levels from beginner to advanced to heritage speakers. This includes German, Spanish, French, and even Mandarin. Speaking of Advanced placement, West encourages all their students to take AP classes there’s something for every subject and skill set. There’s also an AP support Café where AP students can communicate with peers & study!
