I loved that there was always someone in the counselors office willing to help you, and that there were security guards walking around every period to help insure your safety. Another plus was having off campus lunch, the downtown is very close and there is a cute selection of restaurants to eat at nearby and the community is really safe and close to the train station!

The quality of the academic education is stellar, although the push for AP enrollment is more about driving up numbers rather than true merit based recommendations. Also the amount of homework contradicts the mission of the school and the global push for work-life balance.

The issue with diversity management is a big issue at this school. Glen Ellyn itself is an entitled, elitist bubble. If you are from outside that bubble or are a POC, then you will feel it. From the students and some of the teachers. Students have taken to bullying POC students and threatening violence at school events. Some teachers pre-judge students based in their ethnic background and the students have to work 10x harder to prove themselves and assimilate, individuality is not encouraged.

But the academics are great.
The opportunities for extra curricular activities are endless, there is an amazing variety of sports-offered at junior varsity as well as varsity level- there are clubs such as forensics, or language clubs, or eco club and key club. Every student is pressured to participate in something, and the school makes it very easy to do so! The most popular option besides athletics is participating in the school play production. There are actors, directors, make up artists, costume artists, light and tech people, ect. Many athletes choose to also be involved with at least one production a year, since it is known to be such a fun time, and there are three plays produced every year! The extra curricular activities give the students a chance to pursue subjects of interest, or just introduce them to peers in the school, all while giving them experiences that are valued well into the future.
