Glen Fork is the school many parents in other areas send their children, as my parents did. Although I lived close to another middle school known as Oceana, my parents saw that Glen Fork went above and beyond the others. The teachers involved technology daily and saw to it that every student understood the material. They were very engaging with discussions and lessons, seeing it that textbooks were not our only source. The teachers here were very hands on; however, they knew that every student was different and incorporated other learning styles, such as group work. When I arrived at my high school, I knew that my peers whom I had went to middle and grade school with were much more prepared than the others. We Glen Fork students asked our teachers demanding questions with strong confidence with the longing to learn and to be taught like we deserve. One word describes Glen Fork Elementary and Middle School perfectly: passionate. As soon as I walked through those doors, being a fresh five years old, I was taught to love knowledge, and nothing has changed.
This school was awesome, and even almost being finished with high school, I would choose to relive these years over again. At Glen Fork, we were competitive, and I am not ashamed to tell. Basketball was our game, and academics was our goal. When students scoured high on a state summit test, they held fun days for us. The fun days included music, games, and food. Those days inspired me to try my best on the dreaded end of the year tests. Now, being in high school, I wish someone would reward me for having distinguished scores and having a high GPA...I cannot even make myself sign up for the ACT, because now I feel useless. In high school, no one cares if you made top scores. However, Glen Fork did, and they still do.
