Academics are truly great! Many teachers are excellent, but some are definitely not great. Some school spirit is lacking in high school due the widespread consensus among GALA high school students and parents that more resources and energy are put towards middle school students. Great counselors and college counselors! Many opportunities for AP classes! Students' opinions are not always considered in certain imported decisions.
I first enrolled into GALA when I was in seventh grade, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. All the students at GALA are exceptionally smart, kind, and welcoming. You will meet students from all across the world with different backgrounds and interests. It is a very safe and inclusive community because of how much the staff and students care about each other. It is a very rigorous school that can be challenging at times, but I personally feel like all the hard work pays off in the end. The school has opportunities for everyone, no matter their interests. Even though it is a STEM school, the staff is striving to introduce more artistic classes to students so they can explore even more pursuits. I fully recommend this school to any parents looking for a safe and good place to enroll their child.
I came into GALA freshman year. On the first day, I was amazed at what a respectful, organized, educationally motivated environment it was. The classes challenge you and necessitate time management skills, yet they are kind and supportive. Most teachers are some of the warmest and most encouraging educators I've encountered, some are not as so, but GALA is still young, and I'm sure with time, the right people will find their place here.
GALA is rigorous and stressful, yet it is clear they're doing all they can to support you. The community I found here is exclusively a motivator and support system, never a distraction or a danger.
GALA isn't for everyone. As GALA is a STEM school, a student interested in the arts would feel unfulfilled. The classes can be incredibly stressful. But I've found my place at GALA, and I couldn't be happier.
