George Washington High School in Charleston, West Virginia is one of the top high schools in the state. Academically it has some of the brightest minds that the state has to offer. The teachers do a good job in educating the students and making sure that they are learning what is needed. It has many clubs suited for all kinds of different students. The diversity at this school is also wonderful with many people from different cultures and backgrounds. This is even showcased in the school’s annual international day. Sports here is also good and teams are regularly are ranking among the top in the state. Despite all the wonderful things this school has to offer its facilities are subpar. The school is still very outdated and needs some major upgrades. In addition, the football field is also lacking behind some of the other bigger schools in the state.

GWHS offers great classes in the math and science department, but opportunities were lacking in the history and English departments. Outside of the graduation requirements, there was no exploration available in those subjects. Also, the school tended to favor certain sports and music programs more than ever. That being said, students respected their teachers, were almost always well disciplined, and showed school spirit with pride. As a class, together, we built a foundation for a strong community.
George Washington is a good public school in West Virginia. The amount of advanced classes and the teachers are generally of a higher quality than in most places in the state. It is a good size school with a lot of different kinds of people, although the administration is less than welcoming. GW has a lot of school spirit even though its sports teams leave something to be desired. Most kids really develop love for GW as they go through the school, even though it is definitely less than perfect.
