Friendly, laid back teachers. Average variety of classes. Not too many required courses. Allows late start and early release for seniors. Overbearing, controlling administration that frequently leaves students out of the loop, treating us like toddlers, yet expects us to behave like adults. Ample clubs and sports and open to suggestions for new ones. Recent improvement in lunch offerings such as a sandwich bar. Small student body at around 500 across all grades. Leans perhaps too heavily on PBIS points as incentives. Good small town(s) with easy access to nearby larger towns for stores and such. School is overall not bad, but not awesome either. Having attended all four years, I would say I enjoyed much of my time here, but almost despite the administration, which is the real problem. Recently implemented policy forcing teachers to have a final for all students, regardless of grade or class need.
What I liked about Genoa-Kingston Highschool is how the teachers are always ready to help when needed. The classes are on the smaller side, giving us students the ability to receive help and build relationships with the teachers. At Genoa students have various academic achievement opportunities. Gk also helps students to become college prepared by offering students opportunities to take higher level classes, along with guidance when choosing and applying for colleges. Genoa-Kingston's athletics are amazing in my opinion. The coaches keep the teams motivated and positive throughout the season and are always helping improve the athlete's abilities.
Worked there for five years. I still talk to many people who work there. Extremely high turnover rate. The pandemic really showed the true colors of this school and community.
