I wish that my school was more diverse. There is nothing th faculty can do to change that because it can only be as diverse as the area we live in, but it was kind of difficult being one of five non-white students.
High school meant more to me than it maybe should have. I learned a lot about myself and the true colors and development of others. I have so many memories recorded both in my phone and in my head from all the good times I had. Of course I had times where I felt like things just weren’t working out, or someone specifically was making life more difficult, but I’m here to talk about the good, because that’s what it mainly was. I was able to watch kids I’ve known some since kindergarten evolve and grow into young adults. I got along with just about everyone and we all knew each other since we’re so incredibly small, and I even clicked with some kids more so even after having known them for so long. It seemed like everyone in my grade cared, we cared about our senior year, making memories, and about each other. And hopefully, it will be something we remember for the rest of our lives.
This school has the benefit of small class sizes and the dedication to students like a private school for the cost of a public school. It's quite incredible the amount one student can accomplish here. You can dabble in everything, sports, academics, music, and numerous amounts of clubs. Although there are limits to what classes there are to choose from as far as AP's go you can get far with the few. The teachers are open minded and so dedicated to the students, each teacher there really cares for the success of you kid. The administration and faculty are also open minded and will openly listen to the students. There are also great opportunity for internships here from communications to early childhood developement. As far as small rural high schools go this is definitely worth the time here, if you place effort you will find a home and community here with teachers and peers. This high school and community has shaped me into a well rounded individual.
I enjoyed some of the teachers who genuinely wanted to make the school better, but unfortunately there were a lot of bad teachers that administration refused to get rid of and because of that there is a really bad culture of teachers doing whatever they want. Administrators just cared about filling seats and meeting quotas, not education or emotional well-being.
Gateway was a pretty nice school with a great soccer team and a nice atmospere. It is a small school with great teachers.
I have been at gateway since I started 1st grade and I never wanted to switch schools. They really do help you if you need it. Dont be afraid to ask, they are there to help. It has been the best school ever!
Administration is a bit of a joke. They don't know how to do their jobs and make useless policies and stop upholding them after 2 weeks. They also don't give students appropriate discipline. The teachers, however, are amazing and know how to prepare you for the real world. Most classes aren't too challenging, but you learn a lot. Students are mostly nice and class sizes are very small, most grades only have around 50 students. Guidance counselors aren't the best, but they try to do their job. Overall, if you hang around with the right people, you will enjoy Gateway.
I would like to see the administration punish kids for doing drugs in school. I would like to see the principle doing more with the violence and consequences and with the drugs as well. He also needs to change our mid term schedule back to normal.
Gateway Regional High School gave me the high school experience and memories that iv always dreamed of. We all live in the same few towns, and being able to just be with friends and family all day at school is amazing. Our school offers many electives and our Staff is very helpful and supportive with helping us students plan out our futures. During my 4 years in this school, my main focus has been welding. Gateway makes it so if your passionate about welding, that you can sign yourself up to be in the "Welding Program". In this program you are taught everything there is to know about welding, and you are required to have 500 hours of welding time by the end of your senior year. Graduating after you've completed your 500 hours, your rewarded with a welding certificate, making you a certified welder, that is something i look forward to.
The school is overall a very friendly place. It's quite small though, so some might view that as a downside.
Gateway Regional is becoming a diverse community. I loved the small school environment allowing me to become close with my classmates and teachers.
My experience at Gateway Regional High School has been a good experience over all. Many good teachers and classes. Students are easy to get along with and talk to.
Our extracurriculars are great because we don't receive a lot of funding. Almost all of our activities happen after school
Teachers at Gateway care because we are a family.
School takes all the precautions it can to keep students safe.
Limited amount of extra-curriculars. Wish we had funding for more.
Some parent support at certain events, and they care about the education of their children
