I have three children aged 10, 8, and 6. There has not been a better school experience that they have had anywhere else! I love the small classroom ratios, and love that the staff is always open and honest with any concerns that I have had. My middle daughter struggled with reading and eventually her self-esteem in her classes. Her teachers were kind, patient, attentive, and made her feel good about herself. She ended the school year with a 3.4 GPA. My children also enjoyed building relationships with students from around the world, and have kept in touch with many of the former students from China, Brazil, Japan, Belgium, South Korea, and Australia. We are extremely happy with our experience and cannot wait to see the school program grow!
The staffs were nice and kind - they made us feel less homesick. . However, when it comes to paying an amount of money for an "American high school" experience, I'll have to say this school is somewhat a waste of money. There was no diversity at all, even though before I went there they claimed that they have "41 countries" and all I saw is Brazilians boys speaking their native language for 98% of the time. Academically, no SAT/ ACT prep, no honors, no APs. Classes are taught in a traditional way, quite boring with no innovation in teaching at all. About our "online classes" during the pandemic, we got to be our own teachers with a stack of homework were given without instruction or help from the school's teachers at all. They didn't even give us the answers after we have submitted our work. In conclusion, if you're a Brazilian, does not know how to speak English, wants to study in America, plays soccer, then congrats this will be the perfect place for you!
At Gateway I was able to learn to be successful. I made many friends from all around the world. With the help of several staff members, including Ms. Tina and Ms. Melissa, I was able to successfully apply and be accepted to several of my top choice schools. The love and care I received at Gateway will always make it like family for me and I am always excited to go back and visit the staff and meet the new students. I love being able to be a leader and example to the new students of how the Gateway program worked for me!
