Gateway High School Reviews
Rating 3.96 out of 5 120 reviews
Something I liked about gateway was the diversity of people at the school. Having people of different genders, races, and different wealth classes allowed a safe space for all. The diversity of people made it a safe space for everyone no matter what race you were or what your sexual orientation is. A problem with it however, is that the classes were not too challenging. The school chose to make classes a bit easier and allow les strict deadlines for all assignments to make sure no one falls behind in school. This causes many of the students to not care about school because they can still have a 3.0 gpa or higher without even going to school that much throughout the year. Also, the schools teachers don’t really assign homework due to none of the students ever wanting to do that homework.
I have been at Gateway for all 4 years. What I like about the school is the smaller size of students compared to the other public high schools in the city. It is easy to know most of the teachers and have great relationships with them. The teachers there are great because they offer office hours after lunch where all students can work with teachers or independently. Another good thing about the school are the clubs. There are many clubs with students willing to share what they're interested in. The school makes sure that all students are safe by reminding COVID protocals, but there have been difficulties arising at the school. Overall, it is a good school to do well academically with teachers supporting students when they're behind.
I really like how diverse Gateway is, especially in comparison to many of the public and private schools in San Francisco. The teachers and staff are extremely supportive and encouraging. They make students feel included, safe, welcomed, accepted, valued, and important. However, it is such a small school and it does not include many of the traditional things/events that one would expect to experience during high school, such as Homecoming, American football games, and rallies.
