Gainesville High School's students are diverse, school-spirited, involved, and college-ready intellectuals. We have some of the best administrators, educators, and staff members in the world. However, Alachua County Public Schools do not receive sufficient funding for new resources and better maintenance. Though our parents love Gainesville High School's safe, healthy, and happy environment, they do not volunteer often, but it may just not fit in with their schedules. As a student, there is no other school I would rather attend.
Review Gainesville High School
Overall, the experience with Gainesville High School has been rewarding. I've met a lifetime group of friends. I've been taught by some of the best teachers in the world, and feel as though the teacher genuinely care for my education and future goals. In particular, I love my experiences with the staff. They greet and recognize me by name and often ask "how are you, Cayla?" This really makes me feel special. I have had a great experience and learning being a part of the Academy of Health and Professions Magnet program. Wow, this program has taught me not only about the health profession, but how to be a better person, student, and the ultimate caregiver to anyone that needs help. I appreciate the opportunity to be a role model in several organizations on campus and being a student athlete for 3 years of my high school tenure.
Gainesville High School is about as average as you can get if one has little interest in medical professions. I have been to several schools due to moving and I found Gainesville High to be just average. The school has a program called "Cambridge" or "AICE" after taking some of these classes, do not be fooled, it is AP with a different branding on it and that program is super segregated with 50% of the school being black and Cambridge composed of roughly 95% white kids. They have some solid magnet programs for med students though. As the usual with public schools, Gainesville High is underfunded. Those funds it does receive go to the Cambridge program. This program creates both economic and class segregation for students. The teachers are fine, some great, some awful. In case it matters to you, fistfights and bomb threats are the expectation of Gainesville High. Go Canes.
