From Friends School

At Friends School, we not only prepare our students for the next step in school – we prepare them to make a positive difference in the world.

Friends School values all learners. Our creative, academically challenging, safe environment allows every student from preschool through 8th grade to be seen, known, and loved. Small class sizes allow us to know each student fully, meet them where they are as learners, and help them to know themselves and set their own path.

Our purpose and values influence everything we do, from how we teach math and the way we schedule our classes to the kinds of activities students engage in at recess and how we plan our learning spaces. Friends students enter the world as prepared, thoughtful, kind, genuine, self-advocating, confident, and empathetic citizens.

We invite you to discover why so many of Boulder County’s families have chosen Friends School since 1987: Challenging minds, nurturing spirits, and honoring individuality.

Friends is a fantastic community of teachers, students, and parents who consistently exhibit a growth mindset towards learning. The kids know they are deeply seen, and rise to creative challenges, individual reflection, and peer collaboration. My two kids ended their many years at Friends School with clear knowledge of themselves as people and learners — the best possible preparation for high school, college, relationships, and life.

What would I change? Give the school and the dynamic new head, Honor Taft, more financial resources to boost the classrooms, preschool through 8th grade, and keep doing all that they do best!

We have loved being part of the Friends School community for 11 years. The teachers and staff are some of the most dedicated professionals I have ever met, and they take seriously the goal of knowing and valuing each child. My kids' innate love of learning has been fostered, and my kids have moved on to the next level of their education with so much self-confidence both academically and socially. They also have learned critical social skills like collaboration through the school's integral and intentional social-emotional curriculum at all levels from preschool through 8th grade. I can't say enough good things!
Friends School had been an amazing place for my two boys, ages 7 and 9. We transferred here after a tough kindergarten year for my oldest at our local public school. The teachers are amazing and really take the time to know each child individually. The teacher/student ratio is second to none, and makes a huge difference in their ability to work individually with each student and meet them where they are. The staff is supportive, engaged and willing to support you in any way you need. The social emotional components of the school are tremendous and make a huge impact on all of the children. It is woven into the fabric of the school, and they truly practice social emotional aspects consistently. The academics are robust, and they allow for critical thinking and team work. My kids "skip" happily into school every day, and are disappointed when there is a day off. What more could you ask for!
