Friends Meeting School is a beautiful and kind place to grow up and grow into yourself as a child. The campus is lovely; the teachers are beyond dedicated; the curriculum is full and lively, with a lot of differentiated and hands on education and learning. There is a strong social justice curriculum. The small class size allows for personalized instruction and deep relationships between the students and staff. There is a great Arts program: both visual arts as well as music and drama. There is a dedicated and growing Farm. The kids love it! It is a very hands on, pragmatic learning experience. It demands and expects high levels of responsibility. There is a more limited sports program, because of the size of the school. However, the P.E. teacher( and coach) and program is well rounded and excellent. Many of the students pursue sports extracurricularly. The Quaker values of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equity, and stewardship are threaded throughout the core curriculum.
My 2 children are in their 4th year at FMS. The small class sizes and caring teachers make my kids feel seen and heard, which fosters their learning. FMS provides well-rounded academic, including Spanish starting in K, consistent PE and outdoor time, music, drama, and art. More importantly, children have opportunities to be part of the community, through as service project and (before COVID) a variety after school programs. I love that the school teaches children to think critically and see the world outside themselves, all while having fun!
Friends Meeting School-The B.est decision made! Our son is enjoying his second year and loving 4th grade. The teachers, staff, and community are like a family. The support, mindfulness, and values are truly outstanding and organic. Even in the midst of a pandemic, FMS quickly pivoted to virtual learning without any lapses. The different modes of communication and platforms used by the school and parents help to keep us connected in real-time. The smaller class sizes are a perfect fit.
