I can't stress enough how prepared our children were for college/the real world after receiving a Friends Academy education. Aside from the obvious academic benefits of being in a competitive learning environment with small class sizes and super qualified teachers, they were prepared in more subtle ways that probably in some ways made more of a difference. Since lower school, upon leaving for the day, the children have to make eye contact, shake their teachers hand, and exchange some sort of pleasantry. Our children have learned to converse with adults, speak in large groups and how to dress appropriately for school (which has now spilled over to work). While these skills may sound superficial to some, they have set our kids apart from the rest. You can always tell a Friends Academy student when you are out and about. It is actually one of the many reasons we chose the school.

It is so enriching and transformational to send my children to a school where, not only they can attend from age 3 through 12th grade, but also where there are so many intergenerational touchpoints between younger and older students. Upper and Middle School students regularly pair up with their "Worship buddies" (Lower School students) in Community Groups to perform service, reflect on parallels in their lives (there are many) and share hopes, dreams and concerns. The result? Hand waving from younger to older students across the Quad; high fives in the dining hall; looking up to mentors for our younger students; and remembering what it's like to be a kid for our older students.
Friends Academy is a unique place for a student to grow up. Not only are the academics high quality, but the emphasis on Quaker values and wide range of activities makes for a well-rounded education. Most importantly, the connections one forms at Friends with their peers and teachers are lifelong and deeply meaningful.
