French Broad River Academy is an independent middle school (grades 6-8) with dual riverfront programs for boys and girls. We integrate rigorous academics with outdoor adventure, service projects, and international travel to help our students become confident, compassionate leaders, ready to take on the world.

French Broad River Academy (FBRA) plans to offer a ninth grade, co-educational year in the 2024/25 school year. The fall semester will take place in Asheville, and three months of the spring semester will occur in Pejibaye, Costa Rica, with students returning in April and May to close out the year and prepare for their transition to high school. FBRA will provide high-level academic coursework and instruction, a robust outdoor program, and an emphasis on Spanish language and international cultural immersion. Join us to learn more about this exciting opportunity for your child!

Both my son and daughter attended French Broad River Academy for all three years of middle school. We could not have been happier with our experience at both campuses. The academic facets of the school are unparallel and both of our children were extremely well prepared for high school. What truly sets French Broad apart from other middle school programs is their focus on development of high integrity teenagers through their outdoor and service programs. There is no other school like it! Through weekly outdoor activities including hiking, canoeing, rock climbing and skiing and service projects in the beautiful blue ridge mountains, our children learned new skills and and overcame various challenges that helped them build determination, confidence and leadership skills for life. In addition, their time spent with host families in Costa Rica gave them a larger view on the world and helped create what I hope to be a lifelong love for travel. 5stars!

Review French Broad River Academy

I've been connected to FBRA for almost ten years! It's an amazing school with dedicated teachers, supportive families, and students who really want to be there. Preparing students for academic excellence is only the first step, as they also learn to be self-reliant, capable young people. FBRA students have more life skills, self-control, and discipline than many of the college students I have taught. If you hope for your child to get dirt under their fingernails and a passion for learning in their heart, this is the school for your family.

I am going into 7th Grade at French Broad River Academy for Girls. I have overall enjoyed being part of the sisterhood and what we have been through together. It teaches the students a lot about life skills whether it is in the classroom or on the river. Coming from a family that loves the outdoors, so far this has been a perfect fit. The academics are spectacular. The teachers here don't just teach us academics, but they're also mentors in life. I'm glad I go here and I'm proud to be part of the Salamander Sisterhood!
