You do not need to be French or speak French to join the school!

FASNY has two streams: the French curriculum and the international curriculum (i.e. for English speakers) which leads to the IB diploma. I have a child in each.

First, the French curriculum (Bac) along with a NY high school degree is for French speakers. The French stream is rigorous, especially in math and sciences. Nothing prevents an English speaking family to integrate the French stream at a young age; but afterwards if there is no knowledge in French this is no longer a possibility. Though it is for students who might want to go back to France, the French Bac is well recognized by universities worldwide.

Second, the international stream is taught in English and eventually leads to a NY high school degree and the rigorous IB (International Baccalaureate). It can be integrated any year as long as the English requirement is met and many teachers teach in both streams. Some have PhDs (e.g. IB Economics).

I have been at FASNY since nursery and I generally enjoyed my experience there. Most of the teachers I had were excellent and allowed me to push myself academically in order to prepare myself for college. Doing the IB program there particularly helped me prepare for college as I got to write research-type papers and learn on my own how to stay organized and efficient in order to stay on task. The teachers were generally very successfully in helping students. I also enjoyed being party of the community at FASNY. It is very close-knit and supportive. Although the school lacks racial diversity, I was still able to learn about different cultures from certain of my piers. Students at FASNY are driven and hard-working which created a great academic environment. I feel that FASNY was truly an amazing school to be part of.
Phenomenal school with great academics in an international, welcoming environment! Higher SAT and ACT Scores than Rye Country Day and Hackley (based on Niche.com) for an average $10K less tuition. I am very pleased with the school for my son who has been a student for 8 years. The demanding academics are taught by caring and passionate teachers, who prepare their students not only for college (the bilingual curriculum does give them an edge for their college applications!), but also to become global citizens. The IB track, now accessible in 9th grade, is open to prospective students who don't speak French. This school is a gem and a unique opportunity for parents to provide a top notch education to their child(ren).
