Frederick Douglass High School is a very academically diverse school with many opportunities to rise towards greatness for all of the staff and students that are in the Eagles family. From freshman to senior year, I've seen the community grow and expand as we discover and explore the world. One thing I would like to see improvement in the school is for the students to be able to get help when they need it. You can see when kids are struggling, and mental health is something that is difficult to maintain a positive record. High school is a journey that many will go through, but grades shouldn't be everything. Students shouldn't have to choose between their well-being and academic greatness; there should be a balance.

I really liked the environment. I've never had any type of problem during my time at Douglass. The teachers were always friendly and ready to help out when they can. Being a small school they also went the extra mile to help out. Our extracurricular have been good too. I was involved in the marching band, the track team, National Honor Society, and debate team. The only complaint I can say that I have is that the school is very underfunded. Our track is not constructed to regulation, our football field is unplayable (we have our home games at the neighboring field), and the marching band has no band staff besides the band director (no staff for flags or dancers).
Frederick Douglass High School is a school set on preparing each student to excel in their future. Whether this is continuing their educational career or another path, the teachers and administration focus on the beneficial outcomes of each scholar. Not only do they encourage academic merit, but global awareness is consistently taught. Fredrick Douglass High Schools offers students the chance to enter the International Baccalaureate Program: A program challenging students in their personal and academic lives. This school does an excellent job at motivating each student (whether they are in the IB Program or not) to become active members of their local and global community. With a supportive family like the staff at Frederick Douglass High School and an encouraging student body, academic and personal excellence is not only a goal, but a reality.
