My school is a school full of diversity and opportunities! We are one of very few schools in Manhattan who offer Ap courses in several different subjects to high school students. My school pushes the drive and ambition they see in the students who attend there. We take very much pride in sports just as we put our education first. Frederick Douglass Academy is a place where they produce not only black excellence, but excellence in all race and gender!

The Frederick Douglass Academy inundates students from low-income families with college prep by supplying teachers from high-ranking colleges to ensure that every student is given a higher education. The academics involve a rigorous amount of coursework to ensure that students graduate from school with high grades, celebrating their grit at the end of the year. When you’re in FDA, you're greeted by clubs ranging from robotics to fencing, basketball, football, samba, softball, volleyball, taekwondo, wrestling, and lacrosse teams. Another feature from FDA are AP courses offered to the students from Computer Science to Euro, Statistics, Microeconomics, Physics, and Spanish; teachers make themselves available to their students after their AP exams by offering them laptops, one-on-one meetings to help a student prepare for the college process, and tutorials after classes. I can't recommend this school enough to anyone who seeks a fulfilling high school experience.
Overall a very good school, with friendly and caring teachers and staff. Although in the past, it used to be much better. There are still lots of opportunities and a good amount of resources and connections, however, students simply don’t take advantage of them, which negatively impacts the school. The students are, in general, very close-knit; once a lion always a lion!
