Teachers are fairly good. A lot of them are hit or miss. Guidance is absolutely useless, however. You'll be planning anything college related yourself... or at least you'll wish you had.

What they don't tell you:
Take easy AP's early on if you want to go to a top college
Always request for the easier teacher
Get excused blocks if you have a tough schedule... Mental Health> Grades
Sweet talk teachers- you're grades will reflect how much they like you

Bottom line- Be friendly to everyone, expand your horizons, explore your interests with a breadth of classes, get good at writing for college essays, work hard for SAT/GPA/recommendations

Good luck!

Frank w. cox highschool has been known for years as a very diverse, inclusive, and well rounded highschool! We have been known to recruit kids for both college sports and education around the United States. My personal experience here was amazing. I received over a 4.0 gpa and was involved in the JV and Varsity cheerleading team which taught me a great deal about leadership and skills to use in college and the real world!
Overall, Frank W Cox High School is a very safe and rewarding school to be apart of. Compared to neighboring schools, not only is Cox the best in sports and academics, but also the cleanliest. Teachers and staff offer encouragement to all students. However, there is clear imbalance in the school's diversity. Students who have excelled from early ages are pushed to do better by being pressured into the most difficult curriculum available while simultaneously abandoning creative passions. Contrarily, students who struggle to improve are demeaned into taking the fewest and academically lowest courses available. Unfortunately, most of these students make up the African American population at Cox High School.
