Unfortunately, this is one of the best kept secrets in Duval County. FHP Academies offer practical, hands- on training for students who choose to go straight into the work force or continue his or her education at post-secondary level. The staff is engaging and most of all EXTREMELY CONCERNED about student success. FHP is a part of the magnet program and as a result, sports are not offered at the school but students can participate in sports programs at other schools in the county as authorized. Get the word out. This is an awesome academic and technical training opportunity and experience!
As a college student, I can genuinely say that my high school prepared me for this journey. At the time, Frank H. Peterson was an "A" school and had many resources to prepare juniors and seniors for college. Although the college readiness courses were challenging, my amazing teachers motivated me every step of the way. The staff is fully committed to helping us (students, alumni, etc) excel in the real world. I have remained in contact with many of my teachers after high school. The relationship and overall experience has been great!
My overall experience in my high school, I would describe it as unexpected. I did not expect myself to grow into a person I am now. I remembered when I was a freshman I was shy and I struggled to do a presentation since I would get nervous however, as years passed of me being in this high school, teachers and students did not really judge me, they helped me overcome my fear of talking in front of a lot of people and now I am not as shy as I used to be. I have met a lot of people including teachers, staff, and students whom I built a good relation with to make my high school experience better. All throughout my high school there is not once have I had a problem with teachers and the staff. Although if I were able to make a change, I would change the limitation on the basketball court since students are only allowed to play in the morning and during lunch on Friday’s I would allow the students to play basketball during their lunch since it is their free time.
