Francis Parker School No. 23 Reviews

School 23 is a supportive community. In this school all the teachers and staff know every child, and all the children know all the adults. The students respect and like the teachers and support staff. It's clear the staff enjoy and care deeply about the children. The classroom teachers are great. Moreover, the specialty teachers are awesome. For example, the music teacher Mrs. Kelly Follman is one of the most dedicated individuals in the school. She conducts the bands--creating different ones to accommodate beginners and advanced musicians--and organizes/directs the musicals. Other support staff, like Miss Jessie R and Miss Patricia, obviously care immensely about the children. The PTA and volunteers in the neighborhood also participate to make School 23 a special experience for all.

Because of Extended Day (7.5 hours), extracurriculars can be built into the school day. For example, students can choose to participate in the musical as their elective. All electives take place in the morning period. Other electives include Minecraft, step (dance) and rocketry. Parents and teachers run the Running Club, which is supported by the Neighborhood Business Association. The music program at School 23 is amazing. There are several band levels to accommodate the level of the musicians. Students can also participate in chorus or stringed instruments.
Francis Parker Elementary School is lucky to be pretty small--with 2 classes per grade--and about 300 students. Parents and guardians see one another regularly at the many performances and events that bring our community together. These include the Peace Heritage Dinner, where families bring a dish to pass that represents their heritage to augment the free dinner provided by the PTA, and musicals. The Neighborhood Association supports school activities such as the Running Club.
