Francis Lewis is an exceptional school when it comes to academics, yet the environment is not the best. The school is filled with more students than the building can hold, resulting in students having to force their way through the halls to get to class. Also, the staff, mostly the deans, abuse their authority! I am all for school safety, but they will literally harass you about misdemeanors rather than dealing with real problems, including intoxicated students, vandalism, or skipping class. Other than the trips getting to class, the teachers and eduction is quite fair, your grades can really excel if you stay focused.

I have been attending Francis Lewis High School for the past four years, this year being my senior year. Overall, my experience here is pretty great -- I had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and that truly broadened my horizon of the world. We may be a crowded school with over 4,500 students, but the sheer diversity and plethora of people from all backgrounds continuously stun me everyday!

The faculty are amazing and very supportive, many of them guided me through the college applications process and served as my support system. Many are also very passionate about what they teach and engage students well on even the most boring of units.

There isn't much school spirit which is sort of explainable... the large number of students makes it difficult to rally students to events and such. Regardless, the extracurriculars and clubs offered ensure that students are busy during after school hours immersing in their interests.
Francis Lewis High School is the best public high school! They have so many different programs that offer things such leadership, and experience to the outside world. While many people say it is crowded and hectic, it creates an atmosphere of freedom of expression and togetherness. It allows for people to make new friends and to have different friends. As you transition from year to year, you meet new people and even as a senior you may meet people you have never seen before. It allows for a diverse community that is welcomed and respected. As for the teachers, in my experience, they have always been welcoming and really know how to teach. While there are some cons to a big school with a lot of staff, the pros such as diversity, the number of clubs and activities and programs, allow students to grow and prosper.
